Your photos
[edit]Pls, upload your photo (EsztergomCatholicMuseum.jpg) to Wikimedia Commons. I want to use it. Thx, Szepattila 08:17, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
Request about using Commons
[edit]Dear Alan,
I was very glad to find your great pictures of Hungary. May I kindly ask you to upload your pictures to Wikimedia Commons? For example, I saved this picture of yours and uploaded it (there).
If you use Commons, it enables users of other Wikipedias to access your pictures, while they will be equally available from the English Wikipedia just like now. Besides, you could spare other users about ten minutes' extra work for each image.
Thank you if you watch out for the destination of your uploads in the future. It takes you no more time than before.

Image copyright problem with Image:Portsmouth-Gunwharf-Shops.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Portsmouth-Gunwharf-Shops.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. └ UkPaolo/talk┐ 17:23, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Netley images
[edit]Thanks for your photographs of Netley. I've used the railway station image on Netley railway station, but I noticed it's already in use on Netley. Do you think another image (maybe of the village itself) would be more suitable? Hertzsprung 23:00, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Thought you might want to know about this, it has the same goals as Wikipedia:WikiProject Photography, but is better organized. --Gphototalk 19:16, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: Districts Map
[edit]Hi Alan. I put the map together before many of the district articles existed, based mainly on the list that was in the Southampton article at the time. Essentially, there is no firm definition. As a rule of thumb I tried to keep to "macro" districts (such as Shirley) rather than going too "micro" (such as Upper Shirley, Lower Shirley, Shirley Warren, etc.). Image source problem with Image:WokingStation.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:WokingStation.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture
[edit]Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:StPeterPortSouth.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:
http://www.freeenglishsite.com/
I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm
2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm
3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm
Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.
Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely, Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Notification of automated file description generation
[edit]Your upload of File:ChichesterHarbour-WestWittering.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Tyrrell's Poniatowski gems
[edit]Hi @AlanFord. Thanks for adding some to Poniatowski gems. I notice you removed the note that Tyrrell paid £65,000. Was that unintentional or did you have a reason for taking the price out? –jacobolus (t) 20:57, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- It was deliberate, that number cannot be right. The gems in the auction were typically sold for £1-£4 each, so there's no way he would have paid £60 per gem (£5000 in today's money) for the unsold ones! The number £65,000 does appear in the "Remarks..." pamphlet as an valuation Ogle had allegedly brokered, but Tyrrell turned down. AlanFord (talk) 21:03, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- Makes sense. Thanks. I wonder what the actual number was then. –jacobolus (t) 21:10, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
